Fair Trade Producer Details
Aarong was established in 1978 to provide economic stability to village artisans and underprivileged rural women. It is the marketing arm of BRAC, a non-governmental organisation which aims to alleviate poverty and empower the poor.
It upholds Bangladesh's traditional craft and culture, and serves as a means for the artisans of Bangladesh to restore their sense of pride and self-esteem. It currently sources products from 35,000 fair trade artisans, more than half of whom are women.
Most of it's sales are domestic, through a chain of shops. It provides design and product development, market information, and quality-awareness training. Aarong supplies Traidcraft with a range of fair trade home accessories. These are mainly made by small businesses.
